Veteran Pakistani actress Sabahat Bukhari has said that she believes healthy flirting on set can help actors feel more comfortable with each other and improve their on-screen chemistry.
Speaking on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Bukhari was asked if a co-star had ever flirted with her, to which she asked what did Butt mean by “line maarna”?
When clarified, Bukhari responded, “Many times.”
Butt then asked if she took it as a compliment, to which she said, “Well, that’s actually a very good thing. I believe that healthy flirting is a positive thing.”
Bukhari added that a friendly and respectful atmosphere on set helps actors work better together. “It’s important because it creates enthusiasm for work and helps establish a comfort level. It also allows everyone to get along well and develop good chemistry,” she added.
The conversation then took a turn toward intimacy workshops for lead actors. Butt noted that such workshops helped performers become comfortable with each other before filming intimate scenes.
Responding to it, Bukhari said the industry had changed over the years.
“It happens less now, but back in the PTV days, things were different. We used to have rehearsals a week in advance, script readings and plenty of preparation. Nowadays, those things rarely happen anymore.”
Bukhari started her television career as a news presenter on PTV in 1989 before making her acting debut in 1995.
Over the years, she has appeared in several popular television serials, including Koi Nahi Apna, Surkh Jorra, Kaisi Khushi Le Ke Aya Chand, Shanakht, Ghar Aik Jannat, Shikwa, Sanam, Naik Parveen, Hari Hari Churiyaan, Qismat Ka Likha, Aakhir Kab Tak and Inteha.
She also appeared in the 2018 Pakistani film Maan Jao Naa.
