The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Sahibzada Farhan as the T20I captain in place of Salman Ali Agha, also going on to drop Usman Tariq from the national side.

The announcement came as the board revealed squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, which will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Oct 9, 11 and 13.

While Farhan led Pakistan at the recently-concluded Asian Games in Japan, his predecessor Agha was also dropped from the squad altogether. Among other star players dropped from the T20 side are batter Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The 15-member T20I squad includes two uncapped all-rounders, Razaullah and Mohammad Imran Randhawa. Both made their Test debuts against England. Razaullah scored 81 off 63 balls with nine sixes and took four wickets. Randhawa joins as a medium-pace bowling all-rounder.

Several players also earned their places through the Asian Games. Hasan Nawaz was Pakistan’s leading batter and the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 123 runs. He made 96 off 51 balls in the final, but Pakistan lost to India and took the silver medal.

Maaz Sadaqat also keeps his place after a strong campaign.

Two players return to the T20I side after a break. Abdul Samad plays his first T20I since March 2025 and Naseem Shah comes back after he last played the format against Sri Lanka in February 2026.

Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Abrar Ahmed also feature.

Meanwhile, the PCB has also announced the squad for a seven-match ODI tri-series against England and Sri Lanka, retaining Afridi as the captain.

Babar and Agha have also retained their spot on the ODI squad.

Rawalpindi will stage the first three matches of the tri-series before the tournament moves to Lahore for the remaining matches and the final.

The 16-member ODI squad leans more on experience. Haris Rauf and Faheem Ashraf will continue playing, and Hasan and Razaullah will join them.

Wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig has also earned his first ODI call-up. The former Pakistan Under-19 captain scored more than 1,000 runs in the 2025-26 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, whereas, left-arm wrist-spinner Sufiyan Moqim and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Ghazi Ghori also join the squad.

The PCB has also made changes to its coaching staff. Former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait returns as bowling coach on a consultancy basis after holding the role in 2022-23 earlier.

He replaces Ashley Noffke, who left after the Asian Games to join Netherlands as the head coach.
