TV host and actor Sahir Lodhi has been booked by Karachi police in a case involving eight bounced cheques, after a woman approached a court seeking legal proceedings against him.
Shah Latif Town police registered the FIR (First Information Report) against Lodhi on the directions of a court, according to police. Station House Officer (SHO) Ghulam Nabi Afridi told a private media outlet that Naghma Gul, who is said to be a business partner of the host, approached the court over eight to nine cheques that had been returned unpaid.
Police registered the case against Lodhi under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with dishonestly issuing a cheque that gets bounced, along with Section 34, which relates to common intention.
According to the FIR, Gul said she is a widow and lives in Landhi. She stated that someone she knew suggested that she invest money with Lodhi. Gul told police that she gave Lodhi Rs4 millions for investment purposes.
According to her complaint, Lodhi later paid her Rs250,000 and Rs400,000 as profits from the investment.
She alleged that Lodhi then gave her eight more cheques at different times against the investment, all of which bounced because there were insufficient funds in Lodhi’s account.
After the cheques were returned unpaid, Gul approached the district judge in Malir and sought legal action against the host.
