Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan has been hospitalised early on Thursday morning after getting stabbed six times by an intruder in his Mumbai home. 

The actor, husband to Indian A-lister Kareena Kapoor, is going through surgery at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital to treat the six stab wounds he received during what Indian media has described as a robbery attempt. 

Mumbai police have confirmed to the media that the intruder entered Saif's residence around 2:30 am where he got into a confrontation with the actor. Saif was taken to hospital around 3:30 am. 

Doctors have assessed that two of the stab wounds are deep, with one near the spine. A neurosurgeon and a cosmetic surgeon are among the team of doctors operating on the Bollywood star.
