Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed has opened up about the role social media plays in an actor’s career during her appearance on a recent TV programme.
When asked about the importance of maintaining an online presence, Sanam said, “Wou kehte hain na, jo dikhta hai wo bikta hai. That’s why you need to have a presence on social media. There are so many people online and an overwhelming amount of information being shared every day. If you get lost in that crowd, people will forget about you. That’s why it’s important to stay visible and consistently show up on social media.”
The conversation also touched on trolling. When the host asked whether she had ever faced online criticism, Sanam said that she had thankfully encountered very little throughout her career.
She noted that the worst comments she received were people calling her “Khoji” or “Koji.” Tiwana explained that while “Khoji” means detective, “Koji” refers to someone not considered conventionally beautiful.
Sanam responded with characteristic calm saying, “Okay, so the worst they called me was ‘Koji,’ but then they are not really trolling me. They are commenting on the Creator, because Allah made me the way I am.”
The host then noted that in Pakistan, a fair complexion and certain features are often treated as the standard of beauty, whereas a wheatish complexion is widely appreciated globally.
Sanam added, “I have a classic Pakistani face. A lot of people I meet give me references of Pakistani girls I resemble with.”
Sanam Saeed is known for her work in many hit dramas including Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Diyar e Dil, Deedan, Kafeel and Dil Banjara.
She recently returned to screens with Main Manto Nahi Hoon alongside Humayun Saeed and drew significant praise for her role in Kafeel.
