Sanam Teri Kasam becomes first Indian film to get wide UK re-release
Romantic Bollywood film Sanam Teri Kasam, released in 2016 starring Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane, has become the first Indian movie to receive a wide re-release across cinemas in the UK, reports Zee News.
Directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, the film’s resurgence follows its unexpected success earlier this year in Indian theatres, where it became a box office hit despite struggling during its initial release.
The love story is now captivating audiences in the UK. Reports from cinemas mention packed screenings, with early figures indicating an impressive performance, according to Indian media.
Mawra Hocane, who made her Bollywood debut with this film, has experienced a rise in popularity, coinciding with her wedding celebrations earlier this year. While Pakistani fans celebrated her milestone, Indian fans revisited the iconic film that marked her Bollywood entry.
According to The Indian Express, Sanam Teri Kasam earned an estimated INR 30 to 32.5 million (Rs96 to 104 million) on its fourth day after re-release, bringing its total earnings to INR 185 million (Rs595 million). Many theatres reported sold-out shows and even scheduled additional screenings to meet demand.
The film's unforgettable soundtrack, including hits like Tera Chehra, Sanam Teri Kasam, and Bewajah, has also regained popularity, trending on streaming platforms and music charts. A viral video even captured audiences getting emotional during the title track in a theatre in Uttar Pradesh.
This film’s journey highlights the power of storytelling that transcends borders. Featuring a Pakistani actress and an Indian actor and delivering a universal message of love, Sanam Teri Kasam continues to connect people in India, Pakistan, and now the UK, showcasing the unifying magic of cinema.
