Saqib Chadhar, wife cleared in Momina Iqbal harassment and death threats case

PML-N Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Saqib Chadhar and his wife Sumaira have been cleared by an investigation team of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in a case involving alleged harassment and death threats against actress Momina Iqbal.

The development came during proceedings before a sessions court in Lahore, where an NCCIA investigation officer submitted a report on the allegations against the lawmaker and his wife.

The officer told the court that the arrest of Chadhar and his wife was not required at this stage.

According to the report, the NCCIA had replaced the earlier investigation team and formed a joint investigation team (JIT) to carry out a fresh probe into the case. The new team’s findings cleared the couple of the allegations against them.

Following the investigating officer’s statement, Chadhar withdrew his interim bail petition. The court then disposed of both his and his wife’s bail applications as withdrawn.

Momina Iqbal appeared before the court alongside her counsel Adnan Ehsan during the hearing. Her counsel objected to the investigation report, arguing that the NCCIA had changed the investigation team without taking the complainant into confidence.

He alleged that the new investigation officer cleared the suspects without completing the inquiry and asked the court to examine both the investigation process and the decision to declare the couple innocent.

The case dates back to May 2026, when Momina Iqbal filed a complaint with Lahore’s Chung Police Station and later approached the NCCIA, accusing Chadhar of harassment, blackmail and death threats.

She alleged that the lawmaker turned abusive after she refused his marriage proposal, upon learning he was already married. Chadhar has denied the allegations, stating he ended his relationship with her in August 2025 and calling her complaint false. The case had drawn wide attention after Momina’s initial social media appeal went viral and reached senior PML-N leadership, including Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz.

Chadhar and his wife had secured pre-arrest bail shortly after the case was registered, and it had been extended multiple times as the investigation continued.
