Pakistani actor Sarwat Gilani has revealed that Bollywood star Aamir Khan reached out to her after her web series Churails gained popularity in India.

Speaking during a recent interview, Gilani explained how the connection came about. “When our web series Churails went abroad, we connected with a lot of Indian people. Aamir Khan, the actor, was also someone I was connected with because I knew someone from his production team.”

“When they reached out to me, I thought, ‘Wow, Aamir Khan! Maybe now I’m going to be in a Hindi movie’,” she said, going on to reveal what Khan actually wanted from her.

“He wanted the episodes of Loose Talk,” she said, explaining that the request was for the complete set of episodes rather than a role in a film.

His interest centered specifically on the late Moin Akhtar’s performances, with Khan telling Gilani he had never seen an actor who could play so many different looks and characters.

Loose Talk belonged to Anwar Maqsood and Moin Akhtar, the duo behind one of the most celebrated partnerships in Pakistani television.

Maqsood created and wrote the show and appeared as its host, while Akhtar took on the role of a different guest character in nearly every episode.

It first aired on ARY Digital in 2002 and ran for more than 400 episodes across two seasons.

Each episode saw Akhtar transform into a distinct character for Maqsood to interview, ranging from world leaders and cricketers to ordinary Pakistanis from all walks of life – all performed with sharp comic timing and total commitment to the role.

That range is exactly what Khan appeared to be referencing in his comment to Gilani.

Churails, the web series that led to Gilani’s connection with Khan’s team, released in 2020 on the Indian platforms ZEE5 and Zindagi.

Gilani starred alongside Mehar Bano, Nimra Bucha and Yasra Rizvi in the show, which followed a group of women in Karachi running a secret detective agency.
