Security forces killed 21 Khawarij during Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) in North Waziristan’s Miran Shah area over the last 72 hours, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported Saturday.
The Pakistani government uses the term Fitna al-Khawarij to refer to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates.
The military’s media wing said that multiple Khawarij locations were engaged in the general area of Miran Shah and its surroundings in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Four ringleaders, namely Kharji Khalid Raza alias Salar, Kharji Muftoon, Kharji Musa and Kharji Imran alias Ayan, were among those killed.
ISPR said that the four were highly wanted for their involvement in numerous terrorist activities, including the killing of security personnel and civilians.
“Following fierce fire exchanges, in last 72 hours, 21 more Khawarij belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna-al-Khawarij, including four kharji ring leaders have been sent to hell, thereby causing a significant blow to the Khawarijs’ network operating in the area [sic],” the ISPR said.
The military’s media wing added that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists.
With these killings, the total number of terrorists eliminated in the ongoing operations has reached 48, ISPR said.
