Seven people have been killed after a car carrying 14 members of the same family fell into a ravine and caught fire on Baroha Link Road in Murree, rescue officials said.

The family was returning from a nearby village after attending a wedding when the accident occurred, according to rescue officials.

The crash killed seven people at the scene, including three children and two women, while seven others sustained injuries, officials added.

The injured were identified as 40-year-old Arshad, 35-year-old Nighat, 17-year-old Laiba, 10-year-old Tayyab Mehmood, seven-year-old Raima Noor, four-year-old Kashan and 18-month-old Aima Noor.

Rescue officials said that the injured were shifted to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi for treatment.

The vehicle caught fire after plunging into the ravine, officials said.

In a separate incident in Muzaffarabad, seven people, including a father and his two sons, died after a passenger jeep plunged down a steep mountain slope near Sathra Podemar village.

The accident occurred around noon on Sunday when the jeep was travelling from Nakka Shakkar Pattiyan village towards Seri Darra, northeast of Muzaffarabad. The vehicle went out of control on a road section affected by a landslide, according to police and administration officials.

The jeep had travelled around three kilometres before falling an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 feet down the mountainside and rolling over several times. All seven occupants died at the scene.

“Their bodies were scattered across the accident site,” Muzaffarabad Additional Deputy Commissioner Zeeshan Nisar said.

Local residents recovered the bodies before Rescue 1122 personnel joined the operation, officials said.

Police later handed over the bodies to the deceased’s relatives for burial.
