Seven of a family from Lahore were killed when a boat capsized in Swat’s Saifullah Lake, police said.

According to officials, the boat carrying eight people, including the boatman, capsized on Wednesday, prompting a search and rescue operation. All seven tourists were, however, found dead whereas the boatman survived the incident.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the incident, describing the accident as deeply tragic and heartbreaking. Extending condolences to the bereaved families, he also called for strict enforcement of safety measures and boating regulations at tourist destinations.

Punjab lawmaker Hina Parvez Butt also reacted to the incident on X, writing, “The drowning of seven members of the same family from Lahore in a lake in Swat is extremely painful. May Allah give the grieving family patience, losing loved ones so suddenly is nothing short of a disaster.”

She went on to request people to never sit in a boat without safety measures such as a life jacket.

Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi took notice of the incident and sought an immediate report from the administration concerned, directing that action be taken against those responsible if negligence or lapses were established.

The provincial chief executive also said that the government stood with the affected families during the difficult time.
