Seven terrorists have been killed in an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) in North Waziristan, state media reported on Friday, in the latest security operation against armed groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The operation was conducted in the Eidak area of the district, where security forces targeted members of Fitna al Khawarij, according to security sources cited by Radio Pakistan.
The broadcaster reported that the forces tracked the terrorists to their hideouts before killing all seven.
The state uses the term Fitna al Khawarij for terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
President Asif Ali Zardari commended the security forces, according to a statement issued by his office.
“Under the Azm-i-Istehkam initiative, the efforts of the security forces to completely eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace are commendable,” he was quoted as saying.
The latest operation comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) continues to face terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations.
According to the Center for Security, Strategy and Policy Research’s (CSSPR) Pakistan Risk, Incident, and Security Monitor (PRISM), 86 attacks were carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between August 1 and September 24, increasing from 41 in July.
Security forces have reported several operations in the province in recent weeks.
Three terrorists were killed in an IBO in Mir Ali on September 30, while five were killed in an operation in Bara a day earlier. Four others were killed in an IBO in Dera Ismail Khan on Monday.
