Pakistan ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has not been included in Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) red-ball training camp in Lahore, with media reports suggesting the board’s think tank has decided to exclude him from the Test side.
As per the details, the PCB has announced a 22-player red-ball camp as preparations begin for a two-Test series against the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to 29 and August 2 to 6.
The camp, expected to begin on July 15, includes Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Fazal, Abrar Ahmed, Ali Usman, Amad Butt, Azan Awais, Babar Azam, Imam Ul Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Rizwan, Muhammad Awais Zafar, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Obaid Shah, Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Saqib Khan, Saud Shakeel, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shahzad Gul and Shan Masood.
Meanwhile, the PCB has also named a 27-member white-ball group for a separate camp running until September 18, of which Shaheen is a part and is expected to report for duty.
Making his Test debut against New Zealand at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi in December 2017, Shaheen has taken 126 wickets at an average of 28.13, conceding 3,545 runs in 1,114 overs across 34 Tests.
His most recent appearance came in May 2026 against Bangladesh in Mirpur where Pakistan suffered a crushing 2-0 loss.
Green Shirts suffered a 104-run defeat in the first Test and were whitewashed on Bangladeshi soil in the red-ball format for the first time. In the first Test, Shaheen returned 3/113 from 31.1 overs in the first innings and 2/54 from 16 overs in the second before being dropped for the second Test in Sylhet.
Shaheen’s pace during the tour also drew scrutiny as he regularly bowls above 140 kph for Lahore Qalandars, but struggled to consistently exceed that mark and often operated around 134 kph throughout the series.
Reports added that concerns had also been raised within PCB over his limited participation in four-day domestic cricket, with officials believing it may be hindering his development in the longer format.
