Actor Shahood Alvi has expressed controversial opinions about housewives during a television appearance, drawing sharp criticism online.

He recently appeared on a private TV program alongside actresses Leyla Zuberi and Fahima Awan, for a discussion on relationships between husbands and wives.

While discussing why husbands sometimes lose interest in their wives, Shahood said, “Most of the time women stink with the smell of ginger and garlic when their husband is at home, while in office he is surrounded with girls wearing perfumes.”

During the discussion, Shahood Alvi also said that a husband spending excessive time on his phone is not a good sign, and suggested women should make an extra effort to attract their husbands, including preparing their favorite food and getting dressed up before their spouses return home.

Leyla Zuberi shared her own perspective, saying that women dressing up for their husbands has traditionally been seen as a positive gesture.

She recalled watching her mother apply lipstick before her father came home from work. Fahima Awan agreed, adding that women can make an extra effort to look presentable before their husbands arrive.

Shahood Alvi went on to discuss the responsibilities he had tried to teach his wife, including paying bills, grocery shopping, and driving. He said that despite his efforts, she never picked up these skills, and jokingly called her a “dheet haddi,”.

He also revealed that actress Bushra Ansari had once advised his wife against learning to drive, telling her that driving would only add more responsibilities, such as picking up and dropping off children at school.

Clips from the episode quickly circulated online, drawing sharp criticism from viewers.

One person wrote, “This thinking is the issue!!!”

Another suggested, “Hiring a cook or housemaid is a best solution.”

A different comment pointed to the lack of outdoor time for housewives, saying, “They don’t get sunlight, they are indoors so their energy levels drop by the time they are done doing house chores.”

One viewer responded in Urdu, “Jaisa rakho gaay, aurton ko waisay hi dikhein gi [How you treat a woman, that is how she will present herself].”
