Two police personnel, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were killed when armed men opened fire on a police patrol near the boundary of Kurram and Kohat districts.

According to Kurram District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan, the incident took place at New Karpa, where personnel from Banda Daud Shah police station were conducting routine patrols.

The firing resulted in the deaths of SHO Daud Khan and his gunman, Farhad, the DPO said. A passer-by was also wounded in the attack.

Police said the attackers opened fire on the patrol at a location near the Kohat-Kurram boundary before fleeing the area.

Following the incident, additional police personnel reached the site and cordoned off the area, according to the DPO.

A search operation was subsequently launched to trace and arrest those responsible for the attack.

Police did not provide further details about the identities or number of the attackers.

The incident adds to a series of attacks targeting police personnel in Kurram, where police vehicles and personnel have previously come under fire.

Earlier, five police officers were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police mobile in the district.

Another attack on a police vehicle in Karak resulted in the deaths of an SHO and two other personnel.
