Meher Bano Qureshi has asked Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari to share payment receipts to support her claim that Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Maryam Nawaz personally funded her recent London trip.
In a post on X, Qureshi asked Bokhari to provide the receipts for what she described as Maryam’s “self funded” London trip. She also referred to questions raised by journalist Benazir Shah about the purchase of a jet by the Punjab government as well as Maryam’s trips to Brazil and Japan.
“@Benazir_Shah is also waiting for answers for purchase of jet, Brazil trip and Japan trip,” she wrote.
“We are all waiting with bated breath for the details,” Qureshi wrote.
She also questioned the jewellery the family wore at the recent wedding of Maryam’s daughter and tax filings, writing, “The jewels don’t match the tax filing! Might want to sort that out as well while you’re at it.”
The remarks came after Bokhari rejected criticism over the expenses of Maryam’s recent visit to London, where she attended her daughter Mahnoor’s graduation ceremony.
Maryam travelled to London earlier this month. The trip came under criticism from opposition figures and journalists after details of the expenses were discussed publicly, with questions raised over whether public funds were used.
Bokhari rejected the allegations in an X post, saying, “Absolutely incorrect. The Punjab chief minister paid all expenses for her London trip out of her own pocket.”
Journalist Muhammad Malick had earlier discussed the estimated costs of the trip during his show. He claimed that parking Maryam’s aircraft at Luton Airport for three days cost around Rs3.5 million (35 lacs).
Malick also estimated the aircraft’s fuel cost at around Rs7.8 million (78 lacs) based on its manual, putting the combined parking and fuel expenses at around Rs12.5 million (1.25 crores).
He had called on the Punjab government to clarify whether Maryam had personally covered the aircraft-related expenses.
Qureshi’s post comes in response to Bokhari’s claim that Maryam paid for the trip herself, with Qureshi asking the minister to provide the payment receipts.
