Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has met with a delegation of the Silk Road Fund (SRF), led by its Chairperson Zhu Jun, to discuss investment opportunities and ways to expand economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

During the meeting on Friday, Aurangzeb briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s recent economic progress, including fiscal discipline, external account stability, foreign exchange reserves and the broader macroeconomic outlook.

He said that the government was focused on maintaining economic stability while pursuing structural reforms and sustainable growth.

The finance minister added that greater cooperation with international investment institutions such as SRF could help support capital formation, infrastructure development and expansion of productive economic activity.

The meeting also covered Pakistan’s privatisation programme and potential investment opportunities in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and other sectors.

The SRF delegation expressed interest in further engagement with Pakistan and acknowledged the progress made in strengthening the country’s macroeconomic fundamentals.

The Silk Road Fund is a China Government Guidance Fund to foster increased investment in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), an economic development initiative primarily covering Eurasia.

The Chinese government pledged US$40 billion for the creation of the investment fund, established in 2014.
