A soldier was martyred and 14 terrorists killed during a security operation in Balochistan’s Basima district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.

The military’s media wing on Tuesday said that intelligence reports received on June 8 indicated the presence of terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan in the Naal area of the district. The terrorists were reportedly planning an attack on a nearby police station and some banks in the area.

Security forces launched an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in response. ISPR said that the movement of terrorists “was effectively checked and engaged by own forces punitively”. After an intense exchange of fire, 14 terrorists were killed and several others wounded.

Four vehicles and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were destroyed during the operation while one Lance Havildar Muhammad Abbas embraced martyrdom.

The military’s media wing also said that sanitisation operations are ongoing in the area.

“Relentless counter terrorism campaign under vision Azm-e-Istehkam by security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” the statement added.

It may be noted that Fitna al-Hindustan is a designation used by the state for the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) to highlight India’s role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan.

The operation follows a series of IBOs in the province as security forces on June 5 killed six terrorists in Panjgur district. During the last week of May, 17 terrorists were also killed across Mastung, Nushki, Khuzdar and Kech districts following a suicide attack on a train in Quetta.
