‘Speaking English is not a matter of pride'; Javeria Saud defends Sarfaraz Ahmed
Actress Javeria Saud strongly defended former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed after a caller questioned his English-speaking skills during a recent episode of Express TV's Piyara Ramazan.
A caller from Karachi asked Sarfaraz why he seemed nervous during interviews in English, saying, “I’ve seen several of your interviews where you look uncomfortable speaking English.”
Sarfaraz responded with a laugh, saying, “Everyone gets nervous in front of the camera and sometimes forgets their words. We play cricket and are used to speaking in our native language, so it can be difficult to speak in another language.”
Javeria Saud then joined the conversation, adding, “We are Pakistanis, and even I get nervous. Our national tongue is Urdu. We should focus on learning Urdu properly first because we often make mistakes in it too.”
She continued, “Speaking English is not a matter of pride. In countries like Spain, Italy, China, and Japan, people often prefer to speak in their own language rather than English.”
Javeria urged people to take pride in their culture and language, saying, “The problem is, we try to imitate others and forget our values. Instead of asking such questions, we should support our heroes and encourage them.”
