A confrontation in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) between a police sub-inspector and the son of a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has led to an arrest and a formal departmental inquiry.
The incident occurred during a late-night snap-checking operation in Phase VII between Thursday and Friday. Police officials stopped a double-cabin vehicle equipped with police-style lights, tinted windows, and what authorities claim was a fake number plate.
The driver was identified as Khubaib, the son of SSP Naseem Ara Panhwar.
The encounter escalated into a heated exchange between Khubaib and Sub-Inspector Shahzaib Shakeel, the head of the Qayyumabad police post. Footage recorded during the spat shows Shakeel accusing the young man of verbal abuse and grabbing his collar.
In a video filmed by the driver, the Sub-Inspector is heard retorting, “What is so special about being an SSP’s son? I am one too.”
The First Information Report (FIR) states that Khubaib refused to identify himself and used his mother’s rank to intimidate the officers on duty. The complainant alleged that Khubaib ordered his armed guards to push the police aside before he personally grabbed the officer’s collar and fled the scene.
Police have arrested Khubaib on charges of impersonation, obstruction of duty, and the use of a fraudulent number plate.
The suspect’s father has disputed the police’s version of events, telling reporters that he and his wife visited the police station where the officer involved in the incident apologized to them.
SSP South has officially ordered an inquiry into the matter. Clifton Superintendent of Police Khalid Javed has been appointed as the investigation officer to determine the facts.
The probe is expected to review the conduct of both the police personnel and the civilian involved.
