A suspect was killed during retaliatory action after a team of the Crime Control Department (CCD) came under fire near Nala Lai in Rawalpindi’s Gawalmandi area. Two of his accomplices escaped while firing.

The dead man was identified as Raja Zeeshan, alias Shani, a resident of Dhok Chiragh Din.

According to CCD sources, the team had gone to the area near Imambargah Gawalmandi after a report of suspicious activity by three men. The suspects opened fire when the team arrived.

The sources said a .30 bore pistol and bullets were recovered from the dead suspect.

Raja Zeeshan was accused of shooting and wounding a constable a few days ago, who was tracing a stolen vehicle. He was also accused of shooting dead Constable Amjad, and had earlier escaped from police custody. CCTV footage of a vehicle theft involving him had also surfaced.

Police say he was wanted in dozens of vehicle theft cases in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and other areas, as well as in kidnapping for ransom and murder cases.
