Three of a family were killed when an 18-year-old Indian boy fell off a cliff in Maharashtra, his father followed trying to save him and the mother allegedly jumped off the same cliff in distress.
As per the details, the incident took place at Khavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday.
According to Indian media reports citing police, the teenager went to the hill at around 10 am after an argument with parents over his demand for a new iPhone.
The teenager stood near the edge of a cliff for nearly three hours as his parents, locals and police officials tried to persuade him to move to safety.
The boy repeatedly threatened to jump despite his parents among others’ attempts to convince him to step down.
His mother and others urged him to think about his future and his parents, but he continued to threaten ending his life, eyewitnesses reported.
During the final 15 to 20 minutes, the teenager’s father climbed up the hill and tried to convince his son to step down. At around 1 pm, he attempted to grab his son, but both lost their balance and fell off the edge.
A viral video of the father-son duo’s fall also showed the mother falling off the same cliff seconds later.
Eyewitness Sanjay Jadhav said the family and others made repeated attempts to persuade the teenager to move away from the edge.
“The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn’t listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officials were also there.”
“The mother kept pleading,” Jadhav said, adding that the boy just did not listen.
The exchange was also confirmed by police officials present at the site.
