Three Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes, marking another breach in the ceasefire brokered by the United States (US). Local health officials have confirmed the casualties, which included two high-ranking members of the Gaza police force.
The attack in the Al-Amal neighborhood of Khan Yunis killed Wessam Abdel-Hadi, the head of the criminal police force, and his aide.
Following the strike, crowds gathered for the funeral procession, carrying the bodies through the streets. Mourners chanted, “There is no God but Allah, the martyrs are beloved by Allah”.
Another individual has been killed in a separate strike on the Maghazi refugee camp.
The targeting of the police force follows a pattern of strikes against the units Gaza uses to maintain governance and order.
Ali Mousa, a resident who attended the funeral, told an international media outlet that the “occupation continues to target the police officers to cause chaos among the people of the same nation”.
He stated that the primary objective of these actions is to create confusion and instability within the Gaza Strip.
Since the genocide began in October 2023, Gaza health authorities have reported that the total death toll has exceeded 72,500. The majority of the casualties are civilians.
