Dua Zehra, who went missing earlier this month has been found by the police. According to her statement, Karachi based Dua married Lahore resident Zahir Ahmed with her own consent and says that she was not kidnapped. Her parents, on the other hand, claim that their daughter has been forced into this marriage.

Here is a timeline of the events that took place.

April 16: Dua Zehra goes missing. According to her father, Syed Mehdi Ali, his 14-year-old daughter, a student of class seven, went out to throw garbage at around 12:30pm but did not come back.


April 20: Dua’s father claims that he received a call for ransom from unidentified kidnappers.


April 21: The girl’s mother reveals on Waseem Badami’s show that local mosques refused to announce her daughter being missing due to sectarian issues.

April 22: A station house officer (SHO) of the Al-Falah police station is suspended after he wrongly associated a video of a girl leaving her house with Dua. The video was fake.

April 23: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime unit is called in to investigate the case in Karachi. An FIA team goes to the girl’s home to collect digital material that could aid police investigators in their investigation and recovery of the girl.

April 25: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday reveals that the police have traced the location of Dua Zehra. Lahore DIG (Operations) Abid Khan shares the marriage certificate with the Karachi police. According to the nikahnama, Dua was born in 2001 and is 18 years old, when she married Zahir Ahmed.

April 25: Dua’s parents do a press conference and maintain that their daughter is underage. Her father says if they had not been married for 18 years, how could their daughter be 18? He also says he knows nothing about Zahir Ahmed.

April 26: Lahore police confirm the recovery of Dua Zehra from Okara with her husband. Three videos of Dua Zehra also surface in which the girl can be heard saying that she married out of her own consent, and claims that she is 18 years of age.
