United States (US) President Donald Trump earned more than $1 billion from cryptocurrency ventures in 2025, according to newly released financial disclosures, prompting renewed scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest as his administration advances pro-crypto policies.
The 927-page filing, released on Tuesday by the US Office of Government Ethics, shows Trump received more than $635 million from sales of his $TRUMP meme coin and over $500 million from World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency company linked to the Trump family.
The disclosures indicate that cryptocurrency has overtaken real estate as Trump’s largest source of income. Forbes estimates his net worth has increased to about $6 billion, driven largely by gains from digital assets.
The White House dismissed allegations of conflicts of interest, saying Trump’s businesses are held in a trust managed by his sons. Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said neither Trump nor his family had engaged in any conflicts and that all administration decisions were made in the public interest.
Former White House ethics lawyer Richard Painter called the earnings “extraordinary” and argued they represented a clear conflict of interest.
Last week, five Democratic senators, including Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal, had demanded congressional hearings into the Trump administration’s cryptocurrency dealings, citing foreign investments in World Liberty Financial.
Since returning to the office in January 2025, Trump has pursued an aggressively pro-crypto agenda. His administration has established a national strategic cryptocurrency reserve, eased regulatory pressure on parts of the industry, and signed the GENIUS Act, creating a federal regulatory framework for stablecoins.
Trump, who now champions cryptocurrency, used to earlier call Bitcoin “a scam against the dollar” in 2021, arguing that it competed with the US dollar.
