Police in Lahore have arrested two men after a woman has allegedly been gang-raped in the Sabzazar area, with authorities saying legal proceedings and an investigation into the incident are under way.
According to a spokesperson for the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations, the two arrested suspects have been identified as Hamza and Qamar Abbas, also known as Boodi.
Police registered a case over the alleged gang rape and began questioning the suspects, the spokesperson said.
According to information provided by police, the woman’s husband accused four people of allegedly assaulting his wife.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the alleged incident.
The DIG Operations spokesperson stressed that police acted promptly after receiving information about the alleged assault and arrested two of the nominated suspects.
Efforts to locate and arrest the remaining suspects are continuing, the spokesperson added.
Police are also arranging a medical examination of the woman and completing other legal procedures related to the case.
In an earlier case in Shad Bagh, police arrested Kazim and Hasnain for allegedly gang-raping and unlawfully confining a woman.
According to the FIR, the suspects allegedly picked her up from Adda Ghar Pura, gave her a drink containing an intoxicating substance and took her to a room where another suspect, Salman Umar Latif, was present.
The woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted, beaten with belts and sticks and threatened with death.
She was allegedly confined throughout the day before being dropped near Bhaban Jhugian. She later contacted emergency helpline 15, prompting police to reach the location.
Police subsequently arrested two suspects and continued raids to apprehend the others named in the case.
