Two Pakistani citizens who inadvertently crossed the border into India have returned home safely following coordinated efforts by the Pakistan Rangers, security sources confirmed on Friday.
The two individuals, identified as Muhammad Saleem and Aamir Nawaz, are residents of Lahore. On May 19, the duo traveled to the border area of Kasur in a commercial carry van to deliver books. During the journey, they lost their way and unintentionally crossed the international border into Indian territory, where they were detained along with their vehicle by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Pakistan Rangers contacted Indian authorities and requested a local-level flag meeting to resolve the matter. According to security sources, professional and diplomatic communication between the border forces led to the BSF releasing both citizens and their vehicle on Thursday evening.
An investigation into the incident revealed no evidence of malice or illegal activity, confirming that the border violation was entirely accidental.
Under established border management mechanisms between Pakistan and India, individuals who cross the frontier unintentionally are typically repatriated after local verification and coordinate communication between the respective border forces. Despite prevailing bilateral tensions, both countries utilize localized flag meetings and border contact channels to address inadvertent crossings on humanitarian grounds.
