Police have arrested two suspects in the alleged sexual assault of an Azerbaijani woman in Lahore, with the second suspect being arrested from Chishtian.
Investigators brought the second suspect to Lahore for questioning while continuing raids to locate the third suspect.
Police said that the two arrested suspects will be produced before a court on Tuesday as efforts to arrest the remaining one continue.
The latest arrest came three days after the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by three men in Lahore’s Defence area.
Police had earlier arrested a man identified as Mohsin from Lahore and described him as a key suspect in the case. Two other people were also detained on suspicion of facilitating the alleged assault and were being questioned.
According to police, the incident took place on the night between Friday and Saturday after two local women took the Azerbaijani woman to a cafe where they met three male acquaintances.
Police added that the woman was given a substance suspected to contain a drug at the cafe before the men allegedly sexually assaulted her at a house.
The suspects later left the woman near the airport and fled, police said.
Investigators said a medical report issued on Monday contained findings related to the alleged sexual assault.
Police also recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in the incident from the home of a relative of one of the suspects. The relative had fled, police said.
Investigators had earlier placed the suspects’ names on the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL) and said that they will record the woman’s statement once doctors declare her medically fit.
Police added that the woman can understand and speak Urdu.
According to investigators, the woman had visited Lahore several times and was in the city for work related to her clothing business. She also regularly travelled between Lahore and Faisalabad for work.
