Police in Swat have arrested two personnel over the alleged sexual assault of a woman who was visiting the district from Peshawar along with her husband.
According to the FIR [First Information Report] registered at Rahimabad Police Station, the couple was returning from a visit to Swat when two police personnel stopped them near Angro Dherai Bhai Chowk and later arranged a rickshaw to take them to the General Bus Stand.
The woman alleged that the personnel approached them again after some time and took her to Fizagat on the pretext of questioning. She accused the two men of sexually assaulting her at a hotel in the area.
She also told police that the suspects threatened her and her husband with serious consequences if they reported the incident.
Police registered a case against the two personnel following an investigation and arrested them. The suspects were identified as Ghazanfar, a resident of Peshawar and Waheedullah, a resident of Allah Dand.
Both men are posted at Police Lines Kanju.
Police said that the arrested personnel were produced before a court, which subsequently sent them to jail. Further investigation into the case is underway.
Media reports said that authorities had received several complaints about the past conduct of the two personnel, which are now being reviewed.
