Pakistani authorities have seized around two tonnes of narcotics near the coastline of Gwadar in a joint counter narcotics operation, the Navy said in a press release.

The haul included 1,500 kilograms of hashish and 500 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice. The estimated value of the seized drugs stands at around $215 million in the international market.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Coast Guards in coordination with the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC). Authorities said that the consignment was being transported via the Arabian Sea to international destinations.

The seized items have been handed over to Pakistan Coast Guards for further legal proceedings.

The Navy said in its press release that the operation “underscores effectiveness of inter-agency coordination in countering smuggling,” adding that it highlighted “the resolve of Pakistan Navy to deny use of sea for illicit activities.”
