In a significant global milestone, the JAECOO J7 emerged as the best-selling car in the United Kingdom for March 2026, according to automotive publication Autocar UK. Despite the brand entering the British market only last year, its family SUV outperformed established models such as the Ford Puma and Nissan Qashqai.
The UK market is widely regarded as a benchmark for product quality, safety, and consumer trust. For a relatively new entrant like JAECOO to secure the top position points to strong market acceptance driven by performance, technology, and overall value. Industry data indicates that the J7 recorded over 10,000 units in monthly registrations, placing it ahead of some of the most recognisable nameplates in the country.
A key factor behind this performance is the model’s Super Hybrid System (SHS), which has resonated with consumers navigating rising fuel costs and stricter efficiency standards. In the UK, a large share of buyers opted for the plug-in hybrid variant, reflecting a broader shift towards electrified mobility that offers lower running costs, reduced fuel dependency, and flexibility between electric and petrol driving.
This trend is increasingly relevant for markets such as Pakistan, where fuel prices and overall cost of ownership remain central to purchasing decisions. As consumers become more conscious of efficiency, long-term savings, and modern features, hybrid SUVs are gaining traction as an alternative to conventional petrol vehicles.

NexGen Auto Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Nishat Group, introduced the OMODA & JAECOO brands to Pakistan’s automotive market in August 2025. Since then, the company has launched several models, including the OMODA E5, JAECOO J6, JAECOO J7 SHS, and most recently, the JAECOO J5 SHS.
The JAECOO J7 SHS and JAECOO J5 SHS are locally assembled as completely knocked down (CKD) units, contributing to parts availability and domestic assembly. NexGen Auto is expanding its footprint through a growing portfolio of new energy vehicles and the development of its after-sales network.
Currently available in Pakistan, the JAECOO J7 offers a claimed 90 km pure electric driving range, along with a combination of performance, efficiency, and modern driver assistance features.
As the cost of running traditional petrol vehicles continues to rise, hybrid technology is increasingly positioned as a more cost-effective ownership option. The J7’s performance in the UK market highlights growing global confidence in emerging automotive brands, particularly those focused on electrification and intelligent mobility.
OMODA & JAECOO have expanded into over 60 international markets, with a focus on new energy vehicles. The J7’s latest milestone further reinforces the brand’s global momentum, with markets like Pakistan expected to play a growing role in its expansion.
