United States (US) District Judge Kenneth Karas has released a document in New York identified as a suicide note belonging to Jeffrey Epstein.
The release follows a court finding that the paper constitutes a judicial document subject to public access. Judge Karas did not rule on the authenticity of the handwriting or the claims made within the text.
The document surfaced as part of the criminal proceedings involving Nicholas Tartaglione. Tartaglione is a former police officer and convicted murderer who shared a cell with Epstein for two weeks in July 2019 at a Manhattan jail.
Epstein was found dead in his cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Authorities ruled the death a suicide.
The note is written on a yellow legal pad. It addresses the legal pressure Epstein faced before his death. The text reads: “They investigated me for month – Found NOTHING!!! So 15 year old charges resulted”.
The writing continues with a reflection on his death. The note states: “It is a treat to be able to choose ones time to say goodbye. Watcha want me to do – Burst out cryin!! NO FUN – NOT WORTH IT!!”
Tartaglione, currently serving four consecutive life sentences for drug-related murders, previously discussed the note during a podcast interview.
He claimed he discovered the paper tucked inside a book within their shared cell.
The existence of this writing gained public notice after a report in the New York Times last year. The report indicated that federal investigators never saw the document during their initial inquiries.
It was also noted that the paper was missing from the millions of files released by the Department of Justice concerning the Epstein case over recent years.
