Carlos Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud in US open tennis men’s final to become the youngest men’s Grand Slam champion since Rafael Nadal at 2005 French Open and the youngest US Open champion since Pete Sampras in 1990.
In the process, Alcaraz also broke Lyeyton Hewitts’ record of becoming the youngest player to achieve world no 1 ranking.
“This is something that I dreamed of since I was a kid – to be number one in the world, to be a champion of a Grand Slam,” said Alcaraz
US Open champion went on to say, “This is something that I worked really really hard for. It’s tough to talk right now, a lot of emotions.”
Alcaraz’s idol, Rafael Nadal, also congratulated him on winning the champoinship.
Casper was previously defeated by Rafael Nadal in French Open Final. This defeat in US Open final marks second grand slam defeat for Casper Ruud.
With era of Nadal and Novak Djokovic coming closer to end, world of tennis has found another superstar in Alcaraz having the potential to rule for coming years.
