Earlier, model Farwa Kazmi had revealed that she has tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has stated that the second wave of the virus has arrived in Pakistan given the rise in COVID-19 deaths and positivity ratio.

According to a statement issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), wearing masks has been made mandatory in confined spaces (indoors, public transport, outdoor crowded settings like markets and bus stands, railway stations, etc). The government has ordered strict compliance to this and those violating the order will be fined Rs6,000 to Rs35,000 and punishment of six-month imprisonment.

Commercial activities will not be allowed after 10 pm, but essential services — medical stores, clinics, hospitals, etc — will remain open. Moreover, broad-based smart lockdowns in hotspots are also under consideration.

NCOC Chairman Asad Umar also appealed to the people to take the virus seriously and follows the SOPs.

After more than 70 days the national covid positivity ratio was higher than 3% yesterday. Ncoc has tightened restrictions on some high risk public activities. However, the rising spread of the disease can only be controlled if people believe in the need for precautions
