Lieutenant (Retired) Ahmed Mohiyuddin, the former Dera Ghazi Khan DPO who gained nationwide recognition for his public “Khuli Kachehri” grievance sessions and most recently served as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) at the Punjab Police Central Police Office (CPO), has taken premature retirement after the federal government approved his request.

An official notification issued by the Establishment Division said that the competent authority, the Secretary of the Establishment Division, had approved the request for premature retirement of Lt (Rtd) Ahmed Mohiyuddin, a BS-19 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan who was serving at the disposal of the Government of Punjab. The retirement took effect immediately.

The notification also cancelled the unavailed portion of his previously approved ex-Pakistan leave with immediate effect. Ex-Pakistan leave is official leave granted to government employees for travel or stay outside Pakistan.

Mohiyuddin became one of Pakistan’s best-known police officers through his “Khuli Kachehri” videos, in which he held open public forums, listened to citizens’ complaints in person and issued on-the-spot directions to officials to resolve their problems.

His calm demeanour, accessible style of policing and swift response to public grievances earned him widespread attention on social media.

News of his premature retirement spread fast across social media, where many users praised his service and expressed disappointment over his departure from the police force.

One user wrote that “good, capable and hardworking officers retire before their time” and said Mohiyuddin should have continued serving the country and its people, describing his retirement as a loss for public service.
Another user commented that “Such a talented officer cannot be accommodated by this system,” suggesting that the existing system fails to retain competent and effective public officials.

A third user said that one of the reasons behind the decline of Pakistan’s public institutions is that people from respectable and capable backgrounds either choose not to join government service or are discouraged from continuing their careers within it.

Another user wrote that “No honest person can work in this system,” reflecting a broader sentiment among some social media users that integrity is difficult to maintain within the existing administrative structure.

The Establishment Division’s notification did not state the reason for Mohiyuddin’s request for premature retirement.
