The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has deregistered four more political parties, including Waqar Zaka’s Technology Movement Pakistan, for failing to comply with mandatory legal requirements, further reducing the number of registered political parties in the country to 164.
According to notifications issued by the Commission, the four parties removed from the official register are Technology Movement Pakistan, led by Waqar Zaka, Awami Jamhoori Party Pakistan, Hum Awam Pakistan Party, and Pakistan Reform Party.
ECP haa said that the parties were deregistered after failing to fulfil statutory obligations, including holding intra-party elections — internal polls required under Pakistani law to elect party office-bearers — submitting annual financial statements, and meeting other legal requirements.
The latest action continues the Commission’s ongoing enforcement drive against political parties that fail to comply with electoral regulations.
Following the deregistration of the four parties, the total number of political parties registered with the Election Commission has fallen to 164.
The Commission’s updated list of registered political parties also shows Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) as being listed without any organisational structure.
ECP previously removed several other political parties from its register on similar grounds. Those deregistered in earlier rounds include Pak Sarzameen Party, Istehkam Pakistan Party, Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party, along with more than eight other political parties.
The Commission has maintained that compliance with legal obligations, including regular internal elections and financial disclosures, is mandatory for all registered political parties under Pakistan’s electoral framework. It said that parties that fail to meet these requirements are liable to be removed from the official register in accordance with the law.
