Veteran Pakistani actor Waseem Abbas has for the first time confirmed that his marriage to fellow actor Saba Hameed ended in divorce, revealing that the two had been living separately for 14 years before actual proceedings.

In a recent interview, he began by addressing the split directly.

“As for my second marriage, we were together for nearly 29 years. After that, we got divorced, and our marriage has now officially ended. There’s nothing wrong with that. My prayers are with her, and I sincerely wish her happiness,” he said.

Asked whether the differences came mainly from his side or hers, he explained that neither party was simply right or wrong.

“Sometimes, it’s not a matter of one person being right and the other being wrong. There are situations where both people have valid reasons, and both are justified from their own perspective,” he said, adding that in such cases, you realise it’s better to part ways than to continue living an “unhappy and bitter” life.

“There’s nothing wrong with separating respectfully and with dignity.”

He went on to explain the couple’s decision to not have children together, something they had agreed on given their existing families.

“We didn’t have any children together. When we got married, we had already decided that we wouldn’t have children because I had four children from my previous marriage, and she had two,” he said.

Asked whether he remains in touch with Saba Hameed or if any bitterness lingers between them, he was firm that there is none.

“No, there’s no bitterness. Bitterness would be speaking ill of each other, and that’s not the case,” he said.

“If we ever meet again, we’ll greet each other with respect and dignity. There is no animosity between us,” Abbas added.

He noted that the two continued working together on various projects over the years and occasionally met as friends, adding that he would have no hesitation sharing the screen with her again if the opportunity arose.

Addressing speculation about marrying again, the actor said that he has no plans for a third marriage. He is now a grandfather, lives with his children and his first wife also resides in the same house.

Saba Hameed has not yet publicly commented on the statement.
