Singer Quratulain Balouch, often referred to as QB, has sparked a heated conversation on social media following her recent appearance on a podcast hosted by Tauseeq Haider. During the session, the host questioned the singer on her views on marriage, leading to a response that has divided viewers.
Balouch described marriage as a "waste of time," citing research to support her stance. "One research says that marriage tends to profit and benefit men more than women and women tend to be less happy than men in a marriage," she stated.
The singer's remarks triggered a wave of criticism from users who viewed the statement as a dismissal of traditional values.
One critic argued that marriage is not a waste of time if individuals find the "right match," suggesting that suffering stems from "unwanted expectations and emotional abuse". Another user questioned the validity of the research mentioned by the singer, asking, "Where was this research done?"
Religious and emotional perspectives also surfaced in the comments. One individual attributed her views to a lack of knowledge about Islam, while another claimed a person would have to be "extremely damaged emotionally" to hold such a belief.
A more extreme reaction came from a user who threatened to unfollow both the singer and the host for "promoting fornication," suggesting that the stance should never have been published.
However, a significant portion of the audience defended Balouch’s right to an opinion.
"He asked her opinion. She shared her opinion. So relax and accept the difference," one supporter wrote. Others pointed toward cultural failings, noting that Islamic law is designed to protect women.
One user echoed the singer’s sentiment directly, stating, "Society structured marriage is absolutely benefiting men."
This is not the first time Balouch has discussed her personal life. In a previous appearance on the show Hasna Mana Hai with Tabish Hashmi, she explained her decision to remain single by noting the difficulty of finding a compatible partner. She remarked at the time that it is "very hard for someone to get along" with her.
Tauseeq Haider has also voiced his thoughts on the language used around marriage. In a podcast with Ahmed Fozan, Haider pointed out that society says a man has "chosen not to get married," while a woman has "not been able to get married." He stated that marriage is not a "requirement that needs to be met" and described it as a "completion of the self," adding that he would not marry unless he found a partner who completes him.
