TV host and commentator Nadia Khan has mocked Saima Noor and Sajal Aly for their dialogue delivery in the latest drama Main Manto Nahi Hoon, saying that the characters sound weak and unconvincing.
The drama has been airing on ARY for the past few weeks and has received mixed reactions for its story and characters. In the series, Sajal plays the role of Saima Noor’s niece while Humayun Saeed and Sanam Saeed portray university professors.
While Main Manto Nahi Hoon earlier faced criticism for showing a romantic relationship between a teacher and student, the on-screen chemistry between Saima and Sajal as aunt and niece has received positive feedback.
However, Nadia Khan has now openly mocked both actors, saying their dialogues sound weak and unconvincing.
While imitating their delivery, Nadia sarcastically reenacted several lines, making exaggerated facial expressions. She said Sajal’s character says things like, “Mujhe birthday party mein jana hai,” to which Saima’s character responds, “Toh chali jao.”
She continued, saying, “Abbu ijaazat nahi denge,” and Saima replies, “Toh mana lo.” Then, “Abbu maarenge,” and Saima replies, “Toh mar jao.”
Nadia also criticised Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s writing without naming him, and said the characters had been given poorly-written dialogues. “Saima’s character should not have had such weak dialogues,” she said and added that dialogues should have been argumentative and powerful.
The remarks, however, didn’t sit well with many on social media. Some users accused her of constantly mocking others instead of offering constructive criticism while some said she herself was a “failed actress”.
Several people also pointed out that this wasn’t the first time Nadia had targeted a drama written by controversial writer Qamar, suggesting there might be a personal grudge involved.
