Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has responded to reports regarding a handwritten resignation letter he allegedly sent to the Prime Minister during an appearance on a private news channel’s programme.

Senior journalist and program host Hamid Mir questioned the minister directly about the matter, stating, “You sent a handwritten resignation to the prime minister, but the prime minister did not accept it.”

Mustafa Kamal did not deny the statement. Instead, he replied, “When you already know, why are you asking me?”

When Hamid Mir followed up by asking, “Meaning I should ask the Prime Minister,” Kamal replied, “Ask from wherever you found out.”

The exchange follows previous statements made by the federal health minister concerning the tragedy at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital where fire erupted at the Mother and Child Healthcare Centre that killed 14 newborns. Addressing questions about a potential resignation in relation to the incident, Mustafa Kamal stated that he had already presented himself for accountability before the Prime Minister.

He noted that the prime minister is his boss, adding that he will accept whatever decision the prime minister makes regarding the situation.

Additionally, addressing the Senate on Friday regarding the PIMS fire, Mustafa Kamal asserted that the country’s health sector requires immediate structural reform. Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister and the federal government, the minister assured the House that no individual responsible for negligence will be saved or spared from accountability.
