A woman has allegedly been killed by her family in Islamabad after refusing to continue a marriage she had entered against her will, with police registering a murder case against her father, husband and unidentified suspects.
The killing of Hina Zareef took place within the jurisdiction of Nilore police station after she was brought to Islamabad from Lahore by her father on August 13, according to the police case.
Hina had been married to Naveed Hassan against her wishes and was unhappy with the relationship.
She later obtained khula after which she was no longer willing to remain in the marriage.
According to the case details, Hina’s father brought her from Lahore to Islamabad after entering into an agreement with her that she would not be harmed.
She was taken to the family home, where she was allegedly killed shortly after arriving.
Police registered the First Information Report (FIR) against Hina’s father Naveed Hassan and unidentified individuals. The FIR treats the killing as an honour-related crime.
Police records also state that the case was registered after authorities were informed of Hina’s death and that the relevant medico-legal procedures were initiated.
The case has been registered under provisions relating to murder, while police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Hina’s death and the alleged involvement of those named in the FIR.
