A woman has alleged that she was assaulted and subjected to humiliating treatment by police personnel at a Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) payment centre in Sargodha following a dispute over her place in a queue, according to a written complaint submitted to senior police officials.
According to the complainant, the incident occurred while she was waiting in line for her turn to receive financial assistance. She alleged that the in-charge personnel of the BISP centre, identified as Sumaira, instructed her to leave her place in the queue and move to the back.
The woman claimed that when she refused, maintaining that she had been waiting in the queue properly, Sumaira called police personnel who were deployed at the centre.
She alleged that a female police officer then physically assaulted her and forced her to adopt a humiliating posture in front of other people present at the facility.
People at the scene also verified that the incident took place, according to eyewitness accounts gathered after the alleged assault.
In a video recorded after the incident, the woman repeated the allegations and appealed for justice. She also claimed that a child had earlier died in a stampede at the same payment centre due to overcrowding, although this claim could not be independently verified.
The complainant has submitted a written application to the District Police Officer (DPO) Sargodha and the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha, seeking legal action against the officials and police personnel she alleges were involved in the incident.
In her application, she requested an impartial inquiry and action against those responsible for the alleged assault and humiliation.
No official statement had been issued by the Sargodha Police, the district administration or the Benazir Income Support Program.
