Police in Jhelum arrested a woman who posed as the chairperson of the Punjab Chief Minister’s (CM) Complaint Cell in an attempt to obtain official protocol and privileges.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiq Ahmed Chaudhry said that the suspect, identified as Mehnaz Saeed, introduced herself as a senior government official and attempted to influence local police authorities by claiming to hold a high-ranking position.
Officers at the City Police Station grew suspicious of her claims and initiated verification. Police contacted the Punjab Chief Minister’s Complaint Cell, which denied any association with the woman and advised authorities to take action against individuals falsely claiming affiliation with the office.
During a search of the vehicle the suspect was using, police recovered liquor.
DPO Chaudhry said that the woman’s claims regarding her official status were found to be false during the inquiry. A case has been registered against her and further investigation is underway.
He warned that impersonating government officials or using fake identities to obtain protocol or privileges is a serious offence and would be dealt with strictly under the law.
