A woman shot her two children before taking her own life in Sheikhupura’s Ghang Road area, with local residents linking the incident to the family’s financial difficulties.

The woman, identified as 48-year-old Shazia Imran, allegedly opened fire on her children, police said.

Her eight-year-old son Ahsan Imran died in the shooting while her seven-year-old daughter Tayyaba suffered injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Local residents told police that the woman opened fire after the children asked her for money to buy snacks. They added that their father worked as a driver and the family faced financial difficulties.

In another incident, police arrested a woman in Peshawar after she threw acid at a man and opened fire on him when he refused her marriage proposal.

The suspect, identified as Atiqa, was taken into custody on Thursday after police registered an FIR [First Information Report] against her at Chamkani Police Station.

According to the FIR, Atiqa and the victim, identified as Sadiqullah, were friends. Sadiqullah told police that she had been pressuring him to marry her and had demanded Rs2.3 million from him.

He said that he refused her demands and alleged that Atiqa threw acid at him as he was leaving his house before opening fire at him.
