A Rawalpindi woman has died after allegedly suffering severe shock upon seeing her daughter forcibly taken from their home.
According to a First Information Report (FIR) registered at Chaklala police station the incident occurred in Dhoke Chaudhrian, where the woman, Ruqayya, was living with her husband and two divorced daughters in a rented house
Ruqayya’s husband, Muhammad Yaquoob Khan, told police that his younger daughter, Rabia, was at home with her mother when their nephew arrived and allegedly abducted her.
The nephew is settled in Qatar and was visiting Pakistan at the time, the complaint states.
Yaquoob was in Bagh when the incident took place. He had travelled there with his elder daughter and her three children to attend a nephew’s wedding, while Rabia, who has a young son, and her mother had remained in Rawalpindi.
According to the FIR, Ruqayya telephoned her husband at about 5pm to tell him that Rabia had been taken away by force.
She was deeply distressed by what she had witnessed and asked him to return home immediately, the complaint said.
Yaquoob said he began travelling back to Rawalpindi with his daughter and grandchildren. During the journey, a relative contacted the family and informed them that Ruqayya had died.
The family arrived at their home at about 11pm and found that Ruqayya was already dead, according to the FIR.
Police registered a case against the suspect on Yaquoob’s complaint under provisions relating to kidnapping and murder.
The police are continuing the investigation, including into the circumstances of Rabia’s alleged abduction and Ruqayya’s death.
The FIR identifies the alleged abductor as the family’s nephew but does not provide further details about his whereabouts or the circumstances in which Rabia was taken from the house.
