A 28-year-old woman has drowned in the Soan River, Punjab, after she reportedly fell from Soan Bridge while recording a TikTok video within the jurisdiction of Morgah Police Station on Wednesday.
Police identified the woman as Ms K, confirming that she was associated with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as an assistant.
According to police, she had parked her motorcycle near the bridge before climbing onto a low concrete wall along its edge.
An Investigating Officer (IO), citing eyewitnesses, told a private media outlet that there was a report that the woman had been making a TikTok video while standing on the wall when she fell into the river.
The officer added that the woman’s death appeared to be an accident.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene and launched a search operation. After more than an hour, rescuers recovered the woman’s body and shifted it to the District Headquarters Hospital.
In a separate incident, Rescue 1122 suspended its search operation for five-year-old Hareem Ali, who was suspected to have been swept away in an open drain near Committee Chowk’s Landa Bazaar, Rawalpindi.
A spokesperson for the emergency service added that the operation was called off after five days as the child could not be found despite continued search efforts.
The girl’s family had announced a reward of Rs500,000 for anyone who could provide information about her whereabouts.
“The girl was standing near my car when I turned towards the car door to unlock it, I found my daughter missing,” her father had said in a statement.
