A 13-year-old girl has allegedly been killed by her mother, who hanged her from a tree near their home within the jurisdiction of Peshawar’s Town police station, police have said.
According to police, initial investigations suggest that the girl had become pregnant before marriage. Police said that the mother later came to Town police station and confessed to killing her daughter, following which she was arrested.
Police sources said the girl had left home and was traced and brought back by her mother about a week later. The mother then had her daughter undergo a pregnancy test, which reportedly came back positive.
Police said that the mother became angry after receiving the test result and hanged the girl from a tree near their home, resulting in her death.
The FIR [First Information Report] stated that the mother claimed in her statement that she hanged her daughter with the girl’s consent.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt said that no other person had been arrested in connection with the girl’s killing so far. He added that police were conducting raids to trace the girl’s father and other relatives.
Police added that further investigation into the incident is underway, while the victim’s mother remains in custody for questioning.
