A woman allegedly killed her two minor children with a knife and then stabbed herself in the throat in Quetta’s Hanna area on Friday morning, police said.
Police identified the woman as Sakina, wife of Hikmatullah, a resident of Chashma Achuzai Gork near PDMA Chowk.
According to police, Sakina killed her 20-day-old daughter Hameeda and her one-year-old son Naimatullah before turning the knife on herself.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and shifted the bodies of the two children and the injured woman to a hospital.
Medical staff confirmed the deaths of the children and provided emergency treatment to Sakina for the wounds to her throat. After completing the necessary formalities, the hospital handed the bodies over to the heirs for burial.
Police said that Sakina had been married for four years. Officers registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish a possible motive.
The incident comes days after police in Jaranwala, Punjab, arrested a woman who allegedly attacked her husband and three daughters during a dispute over financial and domestic issues.
Police identified the woman as 35-year-old Gulshan Bibi and her husband as 40-year-old Muhammad Khalid.
According to police, the couple had quarrelled over financial and domestic issues before Gulshan allegedly stabbed Khalid and their three daughters.
The three girls were identified as 10-year-old Aneeqa, eight-year-old Anaya and four-year-old Ayeza.
The injured family members received treatment at Jaranwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Doctors later referred Khalid to Faisalabad Allied Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
The three girls also received treatment at a hospital and police said they were out of danger.
Police took Gulshan into custody and registered a case on a complaint filed by Khalid’s brother.
