Morning show host Nida Yasir is facing criticism on social media after claiming she belongs to the millennial generation during a segment on her show, with viewers quick to point out that her age places her firmly in Generation X.
The segment, titled ‘Millennials vs Generation Z’ featured actress and host Amber Khan, who also referred to Yasir as a millennial multiple times throughout the programme.
The two discussed differences in attitudes, habits and lifestyles between older and younger generations.
Yasir, who was born in 1972 and is 53-years-old, described her generation as one that obeyed parents without question.
“We believed that if our parents said no to something, it was final, like a stone carved in place. Whatever our parents decided, we accepted it. Even if they scolded or even hit us, we would not complain,” she pointed out.
On Generation Z, she shared an example involving her son. “If you stop them from doing something, they want an explanation. I took away Balaj’s iPad because I felt his screen time was increasing. After that, he kept emotionally blackmailing me the whole day, saying things like, ‘Don’t you want to see me happy?'”
Once the episode aired, social media users pushed back on the generational claim.
Millennials are generally defined as children born between 1981 and 1996, and viewers argued that neither Yasir nor Amber Khan fall within that range.
The reactions came quickly. “I used to watch her dramas in my childhood. How come we both are millennials?” asked one user.
Others were more direct: “She is not millennial though” and “Generation X she is.”
Another user joked: “If you are a millennial then I’m not born yet.”
