Actress Zara Noor Abbas has shared an emotional reflection on her father’s personal growth after a resurfaced old video showed her mother, veteran actress Asma Abbas, opening up about the years she spent waiting for permission to work outside the home.
Asma Abbas is married to retired Colonel Ghulam Abbas.
In the clip, she recalled the moment her husband finally allowed her to take up a job. She said, “A woman who cooks finally given permission to go to an office and work in the morning. That was the only happiness in the world for me. I spent the whole night waiting, thinking about when it would turn into morning and when I would be able to leave.”
Ghulam Abbas, reflecting on his earlier stance, admitted his past behaviour stemmed from insecurity rather than genuine concern. “But after seeing what happened, I felt ashamed. I realized how weak I had been and how much I had been falsely protecting her,” he commented.
When the host asked whether this reflected male ego, he agreed without hesitation.
Sharing the clip on her Instagram story, Zara Noor Abbas wrote about how deeply her father’s words affected her.
She wrote, “Listening to my baba after years of his existence and experience of life. His growth. Makes me cry today for the man that he is today. People evolve. People change. And he did. In understanding that power doesn’t lye in declaring the do’s and dont’s for a woman. True power is to let her fly and brush her wings while standing your ground to whatever she decides, will be her decision and not his.”
Asma Abbas, sister of actors Bushra Ansari and the late Sumbul Shahid, is known for her decades-long career in Pakistani television, including her acclaimed role in “Ranjha Ranjha Kardi”.
